Brother Of SEVENDUST Frontman Shot To Death, Band Postpone Dates
November 11, 2002SEVENDUST frontman Lajon Witherspoon's 21-year-old brother was shot to death in Nashville, Tennessee Saturday night (Nov. 9),according to informed sources.
Details are sketchy at the moment, but it appears that Lajon received the news of his brother's passing during SEVENDUST's performance in St. Joseph, Minnesota Saturday night and made an announcement to the stunned crowd before finishing the show.
As a result of this horrible personal tragedy, SEVENDUST cancelled last night's gig in Madison, Wisconsin and will likely stay off the road during the coming days/weeks while the singer takes the time to deal with this terrible loss.
A statement on the official web site of Barrymore Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin, where SEVENDUST were due to perform last night with 30 SECONDS TO MARS and CINDER, reads: "Due to an unfortunate and unforeseen personal tragedy, tonight's show is postponed. Info on a rescheduled date will be announced Monday or Tuesday. Listen to 94.1 WJJO for details."
Lajon was reportedly very close to his brother and is said to have written the song "Prayer", from SEVENDUST's self-titled debut, about the experience of "growing up with his [younger sibling] and how they would pray every night before they went to bed," according to SEVENDUST drummer Morgan Rose.
